     This memorial website was created to remember Emmalene M. Thomas who was born in Benson, Illinois on June 13, 1922 and passed away on February 11, 2009. She will live forever in our memories and hearts.

     Emmalene M. “Emily” Thomas, 86, of Peoria, passed away at 3:47 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

     Emily was born on June 13, 1922 in Benson, IL, daughter of George and Ida (Redenius) Fischer. She married Merle N. “Moe” Thomas on April 24, 1944 at St. Boniface in Peoria. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Harmie.

     She is survived by her children, Dennis (Jean Marie) Thomas of Edwards, Sue (Jim) Johnson of Blacklick, OH, Gail Harmon of Peoria, Dale (Jean) Thomas of Olympia, WA and Cheryl (Chuck) Egley of Edwards; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bill (Pauline) Thomas of Peoria; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou (Pete) Spitzer of Peoria and Sis Thorell of Olympia, WA.

     Emily retired in 1984 from Kroger in Madison Park Shopping Center, where she worked in the bakery and as a cashier. She was formerly employed with Hiram Walker and Caterpillar, Inc. She was formerly a member of the St. Boniface Mother’s Club.

     She enjoyed playing cards, playing games on her computer, making ceramics, crocheting, cooking and baking. She also loved family get-togethers, going out to eat, shopping for purses and shoes and clipping coupons.

     Emily was self-sacrificing and was always there, with unconditional love, for her family. She will be remembered for being compassionate, soft and loving and for her memory of steel.

     She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Boniface/St. Ann Catholic Church in Peoria, where her Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009, with Fr. Terry Cassidy as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria.

     Memorial contributions may be made in Emily’s memory to the Cancer Center for Healthy Living in Peoria.
